How compliance review works

An overview of Nowzer's compliance review system - what it checks, how content gets flagged, severity levels, citations, suggested disclaimers, and what it does not do.

What compliance review does

Nowzer's compliance review scans your social media post text against a set of rules specific to your industry. It identifies language that could be misleading, lacks required disclosures, or violates advertising regulations. Think of it as an informed second set of eyes that catches common issues before your content goes live.

โ„น๏ธNot legal advice

Compliance review is an automated screening tool designed to help catch common issues early. It is not a guaranteed compliance audit and does not replace professional legal, compliance, or regulatory advice. You are always responsible for verifying your content before publishing.

When content is checked

Compliance review runs at several points in the content lifecycle:

  • Automatically when a post is created or edited in the editor (shown as the compliance indicator in the right panel).
  • Manually when you click Run Compliance Audit on a post card in the Content Library.
  • Before scheduling, if your compliance settings require acknowledgement for warnings - the compliance dialog appears and you must acknowledge findings before proceeding.

What gets checked

Compliance review analyzes the text content of your post. It does not currently analyze images or text within images. The rules applied to your content are not generic. They are customized based on the compliance settings you configure in Business Settings, including your industry category, operating states, and product lines.

๐Ÿ’กYour scan is only as good as your settings

The compliance scan is tailored to your specific business profile. If you sell Life and Health insurance in California and Texas, the scan applies rules specific to those states and those product lines. Take the time to fill out your compliance settings accurately in Business Settings so the scan checks what matters most for your business.

IndustryHow the scan is customized
US InsuranceRules are filtered by your selected operating states and product lines. For example, if you selected California and Homeowners insurance, the scan applies California insurance advertising rules and homeowners-specific disclosure requirements. Adding more states or product lines expands the rule set accordingly.
US GeneralRules cover FTC and FCC advertising disclosures. The scan checks for deceptive claims, required disclosures, and general advertising compliance based on federal guidelines.

Severity levels

SeverityWhat it meansWhat to do
InfoMinor advisory - the content is likely fine but there is something to be aware ofReview the note and proceed if you are comfortable
WarningPotential compliance concern - the content could be problematicReview carefully, consider edits or adding a disclaimer
BlockingSignificant compliance issue - the content likely violates regulationsEdit the content to resolve the issue before publishing

Compliance findings

Each compliance finding includes:

  • Rule name - the specific compliance rule that was triggered.
  • Severity - Info, Warning, or Blocking.
  • Explanation - why this was flagged and what the potential issue is.
  • Suggestion - recommended changes to resolve the issue.
  • Source reference - a link to the regulatory source or guideline the rule is based on, when available.

Suggested disclaimers

When compliance issues are found, Nowzer may suggest disclaimer text to add to your post. If you have Auto-add Disclaimers enabled in your compliance settings, these are added automatically. Otherwise, they are presented as suggestions for you to add manually.

Compliance status in the editor

The post editor shows a compliance badge in the right panel with a color-coded status: green for pass (no issues), blue for info, yellow for warning, and red for blocking. Click the badge to see the full compliance report.
