Website scan issues
What to do when a website scan fails, produces incomplete results, or extracts incorrect information.
Scan fails completely
If the scan cannot read your website at all, you will see an error with an option to skip and set up manually. Common reasons:
| Reason | Solution |
|---|---|
| Site uses heavy JavaScript rendering (SPA) | Skip the scan and enter information manually. Sites built with frameworks like React, Angular, or Vue without server-side rendering often cannot be read by automated tools. |
| Site is behind a login or paywall | The scan can only read publicly accessible content. Skip the scan and set up manually. |
| Site blocks automated access | Some sites use bot protection that prevents scanning. Skip the scan and set up manually. |
| Very new domain with minimal content | If your site has very little content, the scan may not find enough information to extract. Add content to your site first, or set up manually. |
| Domain does not resolve | Make sure the URL you entered is correct and the site is live. Check for typos. |
Unexpected upgrade prompt before scan starts
If you see an upgrade prompt when clicking Scan Website but your plan still has available business slots, the check may be temporarily out of date in your current tab.
- Refresh the page and start the Add Business flow again.
- Confirm your current usage on Billing. Failed scans do not create a business and should not consume a business slot.
- If Billing shows available slots but the scan gate still appears, contact support and include your plan and current business count.
Scan produces incomplete results
Sometimes the scan extracts some information but misses other fields. This is normal - the scan does its best with the content available.
- Review what was extracted on the scan results page.
- Fill in any missing fields manually.
- Pay special attention to the Voice and Topics sections, as these have the biggest impact on content quality.
- If brand colors were not detected, set them manually to match your website design.
Scan extracts incorrect information
The scan uses AI to interpret your website content, and it may occasionally misinterpret information. Every field on the review page is editable - correct anything that does not match your actual business details before clicking Create Business.
The website scan is a convenience feature to save time. Setting up your business manually produces exactly the same result. If the scan is not working for your site, do not spend time troubleshooting it - skip ahead to manual setup and fill in the fields yourself.
Rescanning your website
If you want to rescan your website after initial setup (for example, after making significant changes to your site), you can start a new scan from the same flow. Note that rescanning creates a new scan result - it does not overwrite your existing business settings. You will have the opportunity to review and merge changes before anything is saved.
